Debian/Ubuntu

  1. Install the package: apt install -y unattended-upgrades apt-listchanges
  2. Configure: dpkg-reconfigure --priority=low unattended-upgrades
  3. Answer "Yes" to enable automatic updates.
  4. Edit /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades if necessary:
  5. Uncomment: Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "true";
  6. Uncomment: Unattended-Upgrade::Automatic-Reboot "false"; (do not restart automatically)
  7. Check status: systemctl status unattended-upgrades
  8. Dry test: unattended-upgrade --dry-run --debug
